Nadeem and Shravan as composer duo gave excellent music.
Their first Hindi film assignment was Maine Jeena Seekh Liya in 1981
Music king Gulshan Kumar gave them the break in Movie Aashiqui (1990) and songs of Aashiqui became super hit songs and thus the duo came into main focus and lime light.

Nadeem tried his hand at singing, by releasing an album in 1995, called Sayesha. Tips cassetets released this audio.

On 12 August 1997, Gulshan Kumar was killed outside the Jeeteshwar Mahadev Mandir, a Hindu temple in Jeet Nagar, Andheri West suburb of Mumbai
The police accused Nadeem of the music duo Nadeem-Shravan of having paid for the assassination. To avoid the arrest by Indian Police Nadeem stayed in London, UK and Indian police officers and judiciary failed to bring him back to India.
In mid 2002 Nadeem Saifi was acquitted and cleared off charges and any Involvement in The Gulshan Kumar murder case by a court only one person got the punishment for the murder of Gulshan Kumar.
On 9 January 2001, Abdul Rauf (known as "Raja") confessed to being the assassin. On 29 April 2002, Sessions Judge M L Tahilyani sentenced Rauf to life imprisonment

As per reports in 2005 duo separated because of distance between the duos as Nadeem is staying in London.

Their song "Sochenge Tumhe Pyar.." is an "inspiration" for a song in Tamil movie Aaha.

Sunday, September 05, 2010

Our paths may never cross again
Maybe my heart will never mend
But I'm glad for all the good times
Cause you've brought me so much sunshine
And love was the best it's ever been

(Chorus)
I wouldn't have missed it for the world
Wouldn't have missed loving you girl
You've made my whole life worth while, with your smile
I wouldn't trade one memory
Cause you mean too much to me
Even though I lost you girl
I wouldn't have missed it for the world

They say that all good things must end
Loves comes and goes just like the wind
You've got your dreams to follow
But if I had the chance tomorrow
You know I'd do it all again

(Chorus)
I wouldn't have missed it for the world
Wouldn't have missed loving you girl
You've made my whole life worth while, with your smile
I wouldn't trade one memory
Cause you mean too much to me
Even though I lost you girl
I wouldn't have missed it for the world

(Instrumental Break)

Oh I wouldn't trade one memory
Cause you mean too much to me
Even though I lost you girl
I wouldn't have missed it for the world

I wouldn’t have miss this for the world
Wouldn’t have missed loving you girl
You have made my whole life
Worthwhile with your smile

Know about Harpoon Block II missiles – India Signs Deal with USA to Purchase 24 Harpoon Block II missiles worth $170 million.

India has signed an agreement with the US government to purchase 24 Harpoon Block II missiles for its Jaguar strike aircraft, in a bid to ramp up its maritime warfare capability.
The missiles are intended to aid the Indian Air Force’s Jaguar strike aircraft in their aerial guard of the nation’s coast by providing them with littoral-water anti-ship capabilities for targets close to shore.

The missiles are for the Indian Air Force’s maritime strike squadron.”
The deal, expected to be worth about $170 million.

The Harpoon is an all-weather, over-the-horizon, anti-ship missile system, developed and manufactured by McDonnell Douglas (now Boeing Defense, Space & Security).

In 1965 the U.S. Navy began studies for a missile in the 45 km (25 nm) range class for use against surfaced submarines.
The name Harpoon was assigned to the project (i.e. a harpoon to kill "whales", a naval slang term for submarines).

The Harpoon missile was designed to sink warships in an open-ocean environment.

Harpoon Missiles are time to time upgraded by company and have many types.
As per type the name changes.

Production of the Harpoon began in 1975, and the first version to enter service was the shipborne RGM-84A in 1977, followed by the AGM-84A on P-3 aircraft in 1979.
The UGM-84A became operational on attack submarines in 1981.
There are also unarmed training versions of the AGM/RGM/UGM-84A, designated ATM-84A, RTM-84A and UTM-84A.

The Harpoon was first introduced in 1977
Twenty-nine countries are Harpoon II customers and number is increasing.
More than 7,200 Harpoons have been produced.

In November 1980 during Operation Morvarid Iranian missile boats attacked and sank two Iraqi Osa class missile boats, one of the weapons used was the Harpoon missile.

Submarines fire a capsule containing the Harpoon from their torpedo tubes.
When the capsule breaches the surface, the top is blown off and the missile is launched.
The submarine Harpoon is contained within a capsule and is called ENCAP for encapsulated.
The ENCAP is the same size and general shape of a blunt nosed torpedo and is launched from submarine torpedo tubes and it floats when ejected from submarine and does not require power .
The ENCAP consists of a nosecap, main body and after body.
The missile is on shock isolator rails within the main body.
The after body has fins which direct the ENCAP towards the surface at the proper angle for missile launch.
Once the ENCAP breaches the surface, the nosecap is blown off by a small rocket and the missile is launched.
The Booster Section consists of a solid fuel rocket and arming and firing device.
Surface and submarine platforms use a booster to launch Harpoon and propel it to a speed at which sustained flight can be achieved.
The Booster Section separates from the missile before sustained flight begins.

Aircraft launched Harpoons do not require a Booster.
Depending upon launch conditions, the Harpoon engine generally will not start until after the missile is dropped from the wing.
This allows firing from higher altitudes and longer range flights.
The Guidance Section consists of an active radar seeker and radome, Missile Guidance Unit (MGU), radar altimeter and antennas, and power converter
. The MGU consists of a three-axis attitude reference assembly (ARA) and a digital computer/power supply (DC/PS).
Prior to launch, the DC/PS is initialized with data by the Command Launch System.
After launch, the DC/PS uses the missile acceleration data from the ARA and altitude data from the radar altimeter to maintain the missile on the programmed flight profile. After seeker target acquisition, the DC/PS uses seeker data to guide the missile to the target.

The Harpoon missile launcher can be mounted on a truck.
Another truck holds the Command Launch System electronics and a generator.
Park the two trucks, connect them with cables, and the anti-ship missile battery is ready to control straits or prevent ships from threatening friendly soil.

General Characteristics:

• Length: 182.2 in. ship launch, 151.5 in. air launch
• Diameter: 13.5 in.
• Weight: 1,160 lb. Air configuration
• 1,459 lb. ASROC configuration
• 1,520 lb. TARTAR configuration
• 1,523 lb. Capsule/canister configuration
• Range: In excess of 67 NM
• Propulsion: Air-breathing turbojet engine (cruise), solid-propellant booster
• Guidance: Terminal: Active Radar
• Midcourse: GPS-aided inertial navigation
• Warhead: Penetration, high-explosive blast
• System Elements: Missile - Common for all launch platforms
• Booster - For surface, sub and land based applications
• Launch Support Structure and Canisters
• Command and Launch System - Provides engagement planning and launch control
• Platforms: Air, land, surface and sub-surface applications
• Ships
• Aircraft
• Submarines
• Coastal Defense
• Fast Patrol Boats up through Destroyers and Frigates
• F/A-18, F-15, F-16, F-27, F-50, P-3, S-3
• Wide range of Sub classes with 9 foreign navies
• Mobile Land Based Truck Platform

Harpoon Block II provides accurate long-range guidance for land and ship targets by
Incorporating the low-cost inertial measuring unit from the Boeing Joint Direct Attack

Munition (JDAM) program; and the software, mission computer, integrated Global
Positioning System/Inertial Navigation System, GPS antenna and receiver from the
Standoff Land Attack Missile Expanded Response (SLAM ER).

The multi-mission Block II is deployable from all current Harpoon missile system
Platforms with either existing command and launch equipment or the commercially
Available Advanced Harpoon Weapon Control System (AHWCS).

Harpoon Block II is capable of executing both anti-ship and land-strike missions.
To strike targets on land and ships in port, the missile uses GPS-aided inertial
Navigation to hit a designated target aim point.
The 500-pound blast warhead delivers lethal firepower against a wide variety of land-based targets, including coastal defense sites, surface-to-air missile sites, exposed aircraft, port/industrial facilities and ships in port.
For conventional anti-ship missions, such as open-ocean and near-land, the GPS/INS eliminates midcourse guidance errors enroute to the target area.
The accurate navigation solution coupled with launch system improvements combine to offer better discrimination of target ships from islands, nearby land masses or other ships. These Block II improvements maintain Harpoon’s high hit probability against ships very close to land or traveling in congested sea lanes.

Harpoon Block III –
Harpoon Block III program was canceled by the U.S. Navy in April 2009.
But this does not mean that Harpoon Block II will not be upgraded time to time.

Does Pakistan Got the Harpoon missile?
The United States has provided a total of 165 Harpoon missiles to Pakistan, including 37 of the older-model weapons that were delivered from 1985 to 1988.
Pakistan will get 30 Harpoon Block II encapsulated missiles and related equipment under the foreign military sales program.
The order was part of a $191 million contract awarded to McDonnell Douglas Corp/Boeing and placed by the US Navy on March 30, 2007. The contract was scheduled for completion December 2011.
Total – 90 Harpoon Missiles.

Researcher Hari Prasad is he a thief or real hero of India who opened the eyes of India? India's EVM are Vulnerable to Fraud.

Researcher Hari Prasad is he a thief or real hero of India who opened the eyes of India? India's EVM are Vulnerable to Fraud.

Reality views by sm –
Friday, September 03, 2010

Hari Prasad and his team have proved that Indian Voting machines are not safe and trustworthy, they can be tampered and bogus, and fraud voting is possible using Indian EVM.

For doing this activity and for proving his point,
Now Hari Prasad is facing theft accusations and he was arrested recently for doing theft of electronic voting machine.

Hari Prasad was arrested from Hyderabad on in connection with the theft of an EVM from Mumbai the arrest was made to question Hari into naming the ‘anonymous’ source that he claims was responsible to supply that EVM to the researchers.

The researchers got an EVM from one of the EC's warehouses, and were able to hack it and demonstrate several ways of tampering with it, including the use of radio-aware chips that would enable a Bluetooth-based cell phone outside a booth to manipulate the machines.

The vaunted process of the EC was, however, not even aware of the missing machine for several months!
If was only by looking at the serial number on a videotape of the hacked machine that the EC identified which warehouse that EVM came from.
This puts in doubt the physical security of the devices.

If this defects shown by Hari and his team are not removed then what is the use of voting in next election, when we know that using cell phone one can change our vote.

Did you notice media is silent on this topic?
Political parties are silent on this topic?
Is this not national issue?

Who is Hari Prasad? Who are his friends?

The name of the arrested researcher is Hari Krishna Prasad Murli Mohan Waimuru.
He organized the study, is managing director of Net India, (P) Ltd.,
A Hyderabad-based research and development firm.
He is technical coordinator of VeTA (Citizens for Verifiability, Transparency and Accountability in Elections)

In 2009, the Election Commission of India publicly challenged Prasad to demonstrate that EVMs could be tampered with, only to withhold access to the EVMs at the last minute.

Dr. J. Alex Halderman is a professor of computer science at the University of Michigan.
A noted expert on electronic voting security, Professor Halderman demonstrated the first voting machine virus and helped lead California's "top-to-bottom" electronic voting review. He holds a Ph.D. from Princeton University.

Rop Gonggrijp is a technology activist from Holland who was instrumental in having EVMs banned in the Netherlands. In 1993, Gonggrijp cofounded XS4ALL, the first ISP in the Netherlands to offer Internet service to the general public.

the Election Commission of India has acted as the spokesman of the EVM manufacturers. The ECI has claimed on several occasions that EVMs are 'foolproof', ‘perfect’.

How all this started?

Hari and fellow-researchers put together a proof-of-concept, wherein they demonstrated a hack on some other hardware. The Election Commission of India pointed that this was not on one of the Indian EVMs.

It is reported that, The Election Commission (EC) - invited Mr. Hari Prasad several times but never granted him access to EVM.

After this point, researchers requested that the EC provide them with an actual EVM, it appears the EC refused, or insisted that they tamper with the EVM without actually touching them, a feat of magic which, alas, software developers are unable to pull off.

The researchers had used a genuine EVM in their ‘vulnerability demonstration' on April 28 and the Election Commission of India had then rejected the claim outright.
After video footage of the demonstration showed the serial number of the EVM, authorities found that one of the EVMs in Mumbai collectorate was ‘stolen' and a case registered in MRA Marg station on May 13.

When someone is intelligent and knows that he can do it what he is saying for the benefit of India and Indian citizens what he should do when government is not ready to accept the truth and facts?

Thus I think they managed to get the real EVM and demonstrated that Indian EVM is not fool proof and is very easy to hack Indian EVMs in few minutes.

Now the same thing happened in America, what American government did?

Dr Alex Halderman who worked with Hari Prasad in hacking the Indian EVM has also hacked an EVM used in the US elections and he was employed by State of California Secretary of State to expose the vulnerabilities of the EVMs used in California.

This is difference between American democracy and Indian Democracy.

And today in India Hari Prasad has been branded as a thief for showing us reality of EVM.
He has done the job and duty of government.

In America dr. Alex haalderman is a hero and here we are making Hari Prasad a thief.
This is not even a national issue in India.

Why Government is doing this?
To create fear in Public mind that if you try to go against government see what will happen.

The British rulers in India behaved same way with Netaji Bose and Bhagat Singh.

Don’t you think Hari Prasad and his team should be awarded Bharat Ratna?

India deserves a transparent election process, which these machines simply cannot deliver."

No machine is full proof
yes I agree,
but it is the duty of election commission of India as well as government to see, check, verify and see that Indian voting machines are full proof and if someone points out the defects of that system, the defects should be removed from those machines.

Act of arresting a person is a way to show the power and silence him forever

Until now I always believed in the Election commission of India that EVM is safe.

August 2010 –
Chief Election Commissioner Navin B Chawla said that, Describing electronic voting machines being used for polls as 'perfect,' he said there was no need for any 'technological improvement' to be made on them. "Till today, no individual could prove that the EVMs used by the EC can be tampered with," he said.

But Now I do not believe in those machines and feel that in last elections did they count my vote honestly or your vote honestly.
Did we get cheated because of faulty machines?

Thank you Hari Prasad and full team for opening our eyes and showing us that it is easy to hack Indian Electronic voting machines.

Now one will ask
should we ban or stop the use of electronic voting machines?
No they should not be banned.
If we will go to paper vote.
again old Gundaraj and booth capturing will start in India .Because of fear no one will even go to the police as it happens before the eyes of Police, in the presence of police.

The option is check the machines and invite the security professionals and with their help remove the faults which Hari and his team have shown to the world.

Support Hari Prasad
Spread News about his great courage and honesty
Remember he has not sold the ideas to the corrupt politicians but he honestly without fear came into open and showed us the truth about Indian Voting machines or EVMs

Indian election authorities have repeatedly claimed that the nation's
electronic voting machines are tamper-proof, but in this video, security
researchers demonstrate several ways that criminals could tamper with
the machines to steal votes and change the outcome of elections. These
attacks would be very difficult to detect, but they are actually quite
simple. Probably a million people in India have the necessary skills.

[title: "The Problem with Electronic Voting"]

Imagine going to the polls and being given a ballot. After filling it
out, you are shown a brand new "Electronic" Voting Machine that consists
of a large box with a curtain. There is a man behind the curtain, and
when you approach, he snatches your ballot. He then shreds it into
pieces and tells you, you have voted. When the polls close and counting
time comes, the man behind the curtain hands over a piece of paper on
which he has kept an honest count...or so he claims.

Electronic voting machines are no more trustworthy than a stranger
behind a curtain. We will show you several ways that they could cheat.

India is the worlds largest democracy, and for about a decade, nearly
all votes have been cast on electronic voting machines, or E-V-Ms.
They consist a "Control Unit" used by poll workers and a "Ballot Unit"
inside the polling booth. There is a single race, and the Ballot Unit
has one button for each candidate.

[title: "Simulated Election"]

Let's run a small election using a real EVM.

When a voter arrives, poll workers press this button to allow one vote.

The voter then presses the button for their candidate, and the vote is
cast.

Let's give each candidate three votes.

[title: "The Count"]

Later, the votes are read from the EVMs during a public counting
session. When workers press a button, the machine displays the number
of votes for each candidate.

The display shows that candidate 1 wins with 7 votes. Something is
wrong--that number was supposed to be 3. Somehow, one vote has been
stolen from each of the other candidates.

Now we'll open the machine and show you how we tampered with it. Until
now, Indian election officials haven't let voters see inside.

The EVM contains a simple computer, with a processor and memory to store
votes.

[title: "The Dishonest Display"]

We made the machine cheat by tampering with the hardware. Before our
demo election, we opened the machine and replaced the real display with
this dishonest look-alike version, which lies about the election
results. As you can see, the two displays look nearly identical.

We built our version in a few weeks from parts costing just a few
dollars. Under the displays, we hid a small chip that replaces the real
results with dishonest ones, and a Bluetooth radio that lets us
wirelessly signal who should win. Criminals could install a dishonest
display at any time before the votes are counted, possibly years before
the election.

[title: "Memory Manipulations"]

Here's a second way criminals could cheat. They could also change votes
while the machines are stored, between the election and the public
counting session. To prove this, we built a small vote stealing tool. It
has a dial to select the winning candidate, and it clips directly to the
memory chips that store the votes in the EVM. The attacker just attaches
it momentarily and it rewrites the votes. This attack leaves no traces
and makes sure our favorite candidate wins.

[tite: "The Secret Software"]

Another alarming problem is that the software that counts the votes is
stored in chips that are designed so that the software cannot be read
back out. That means not even the Election Commission of India--India's
highest election authority--can verify that the correct software is in
the EVMs.

Yet the software in the chips could be dishonest---or the real chips
could be replaced by dishonest look-alikes---and nobody could tell.

Meanwhile, experts for the Election Commission of India seem to think
that the fact that nobody can verify the software actually makes the
EVMs more secure.

Prof. P.V. Indiresan, chairman, expert committee: "The program itself is
frozen. It cannot be entered, it cannot be read. Even the BEL and ECIL
cannot read what is in the code."

Remember the man behind the curtain? What if that unreadable code is
dishonest?

Indian elections employ safeguards against fraud, but this does not
prevent our attacks.

One safeguard is that poll workers perform a small mock election to test
the machine before voting starts. However, it would be easy to program a
dishonest machine so that it cheats only after hundreds of votes are
cast. Everything would seem normal during the mock election, but the
real election results would be dishonest.

Another safeguard is that election officials place seals on various
parts of the machine. Yet these seals are easy to tamper with---most
consist of a sticker, or a piece of string and some red wax. Scientists
don't really know how to make seals that cannot be cheaply faked or
tampered with, even in applications such as nuclear facilities.
Low-tech voting machine seals are an extremely weak defense.

People also point out that the order of the candidates is not determined
until a few weeks before voting. This is believed to limit the amount of
time an attacker has to manipulate the machines.

But remember the Bluetooth radio on our dishonest display? Either at the
polling stations or at the counting session, a mobile phone with a
special application can be used to tell the display which candidate
should win.

You have witnessed attacks that can change election results on real EVMs
in real scenarios. We believe this settles the debate. India's EVMs can
be tampered with to steal votes.

Paperless electronic voting systems are never transparent and are
inherently insecure. The use of paperless EVMs has been discontinued in
California, Florida, Ireland, The Netherlands and Germany. India would
be wise to follow suit.

Once England ruled the world and Privy Council or King in council heard appeals from more than 150 countries in all types of cases civil, criminal etc.
The jurisdiction of the Privy Council originated at the Norman Conquest with the premise that:

“The King is the fountain of all justice throughout his Dominions, and exercises jurisdiction in his Council, which act in an advisory capacity to the Crown.”
At the beginning of the fourteenth century, receivers were appointed to aid the dispensation of justice in Parliament. One group was appointed for Great Britain and Ireland, and one for the Channel Islands.
Appeals from the Channel Islands became the first regular appellate business of the King’s Council, now the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council. With the growth of the British Empire, this business increased with appeals and petitions from the Royal Council, and Privy Council Committees were formed.

From 1833 the Privy Council was officially known as or called as the judicial committee of the Privy Council.

Privy Council - Abolished the Sati system of India.

In 1831 the Privy Council heard an appeal against the East India Company “from certain Hindus of Calcutta complaining of a regulation of the Governor General… abolishing the practice of Sati system”.
In India Sati is a custom in which after the death of Husband it was a rule that the wife should commit suicide or burn herself with her dead husband.
The ban was upheld by the Privy Council, but it was heard by an unusually large board of nine judges.

This court was highest court of appeal for over two centuries, setting high standard of justice system in India.

In 1726 for the first time a right to appeal to the king in council was granted from the courts in India.
From period 1726 to 1833 more than three hundred appeals were disposed of by the Privy Council.
During its period as the highest court of appeal from India the Privy Council rendered more than 2500 judgment which for a great body of precedents. These judgments constitute the fountain source of law on many points.
Privy Council was situated and bases in London and distance was 5000 miles or more.

All the Privy council documents are kept at the Public Record office, London.
If ever you read their letters, discussions about the slave colonies in England parliament you will realize how less our own Politicians discuss about the progress of India in our own parliament.
Today our politicians wait for Supreme Court of India to order them in writing to give free food to poor people of India, give free medicine or reduce the medicine prices.

K.M. Munshi, a lawyer-statesman observed –
The British Parliament and the Privy Council are the two great institutions which the Anglo Saxon race has given to mankind.
The Privy Council during the last few centuries has not only laid down law but coordinated the concept of right and obligations throughout all the dominions and colonies in the British Commonwealth. So far as India is concerned, the role of the Privy Council has been one of the most important.
It has been a great unifying force and for us Indians it became the instrument and embodiment of the rule of law, a concept on which alone we have based the democratic institutions which we have set up in our constitution.

Alladi Krishnaswami Ayyar, an eminent lawyer-member of the constituent assembly observed regarding work of Privy Council, he said,
There can be no doubt that the record of the judicial committee of the Privy Council has been a splendid one.

On 6th February,1950 at a sitting of the Privy council a message was read from the Government of India paying a tribute to the Valuable services rendered by Privy council to India over a period of more than two centuries .
Government of India act 1935 started the federal policy in India.
This act established, made provision for the establishment of federal court in India.
Federal policy, constitution means distribution of power between centre and the constitutional unit.
Federal court is one which solves disputes between the centre and the constitutional unit.
Federal court was formally inaugurated on the 1st October, 1937
The viceroy administered the oath of allegiance to the first three judges of the court namely,
• Sir Maurice Gwyer – chief Justice from 1 October, 1937 to 25 April, 1943
• Sir shah Muhammad Sulaiman
• M.R. Jayakar.

The court held its first sitting at New Delhi on December 6.1937.
The governor general was not bound to accept the opinion of the Federal court.
Governor General = Today’s Prime minister and his council
From Federal court appeals went to the Privy Council.
The judges of the federal court were appointed by his Majesty.
They were to remain in office till they reached age of 65 years.
A judge could be removed from office for misbehavior or infirmity of mind or body.
In India federal court worked for only 12 years but the job done was excellent.
Federal court is predecessor of the present day supreme court of India.

Indian Constituent Assembly passed the abolition of Privy Council jurisdiction act on the 24th September, 1949 to abolish the jurisdiction of Privy Council in respect of appeals from India.
The act came into force on the 10th October, 1949.

The last appeal from India was disposed of by the Privy Council on December 15, 1949 and with this came to an end India’s 200 year old connection with Privy Council.

On January 26, 1950, the federal court itself was converted into the Supreme Court and all the federal court judges on that day became the judges of the Supreme Court.

Thus Indian Legal history started its new era.

In short I will here mention about the current working and role of The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council around the world.

The Judicial Committee of the Privy Council is the highest court of appeal for many current and former Commonwealth countries, as well as the United Kingdom’s overseas territories, crown dependencies, and military sovereign base areas.

It also hears very occasional appeals from a number of ancient and ecclesiastical courts. These include the Church Commissioners, the Arches Court of Canterbury, the Chancery Court of York, prize courts and the Court of Admiralty of the Cinque Ports.

• United Kingdom appeals
• Commonwealth appeals
• Overseas territories and sovereign base appeals
• Appeals to local head of state

United Kingdom appeals

The Judicial Committee hears domestic appeals to Her Majesty in Council as follows:

• Jersey, Guernsey and the Isle of Man
• the Disciplinary Committee of the Royal College of Veterinary Surgeons
• against certain schemes of the Church Commissioners under the Pastoral Measure 1983

The Judicial Committee also has the following rarely-used jurisdictions:

• appeals from the Arches Court of Canterbury and the Chancery Court of York in non-doctrinal faculty causes
• appeals from Prize Courts
• disputes under the House of Commons Disqualification Act
• appeals from the Court of Admiralty of the Cinque Ports

Additionally, Her Majesty has the power to refer any matter to the Judicial Committee for "consideration and report" under section 4 of the Judicial Committee Act 1833.

Under the Constitutional Reform Act 2005, devolution cases from the regions of the United Kingdom are now heard by The Supreme Court.

Commonwealth appeals

To bring an appeal to the Judicial Committee of the Privy Council, you must have been granted leave by the lower court whose decision you are appealing. In the absence of leave, permission to appeal must be granted by the Board. In some cases there is an appeal as of right and a slightly different procedure applies.

In civil cases, the lower court will generally grant you leave to appeal if the court is satisfied that your case raises a point of general public importance.

In criminal cases, it is unusual for the lower court to have the power to grant leave unless your case raises questions of great and general importance, or there has been some grave violation of the principles of natural justice.

Appeal therefore lies from these countries:

• Antigua and Barbuda
• Bahamas
• Barbados
• Belize
• Cook Islands and Niue (Associated States of New Zealand)
• Grenada
• Jamaica
• St Christopher and Nevis
• Saint Lucia
• Saint Vincent and the Grenadines
• Tuvalu

Legislation enacted in New Zealand in October 2003 abolished appeals from New Zealand to the Privy Council in respect of all cases heard by the Court of Appeal of New Zealand after the end of 2003. This New Zealand legislation does not affect rights of appeal from the Cook Islands and Niue.

Appeal to the Judicial Committee also lies from the following independent republics within the Commonwealth:

• the Republic of Trinidad and Tobago
• the Commonwealth of Dominica
• Kiribati
• Mauritius

The circumstances in which appeals may be brought are similar to those in which appeals lie to Her Majesty in Council as above, except that from Kiribati an appeal lies only in cases where it is alleged that certain constitutional rights of any Banaban or of the Rabi Council have been or are likely to be infringed.

Overseas territories and sovereign base appeals

The Judicial Committee hears appeals from the following overseas territories of the United Kingdom:

• Anguilla
• Bermuda
• British Virgin Islands
• Cayman Islands
• Falkland Islands
• Gibraltar
• Monserrat
• Pitcairn Islands
• St Helena and dependencies
• Turks and Caicos Islands

Additionally, appeals are heard from sovereign base areas in Cyprus:

• Akrotiri
• Dhekelia

Appeals to local head of state

In civil cases only, an appeal lies to the Judicial Committee from the Court of Appeal of Brunei to the Sultan and Yang di-Pertuan.

By agreement between Her Majesty and the Sultan these appeals are heard by the Judicial Committee, whose opinion is reported to the Sultan instead of to Her Majesty.
