Going To DUBAI – Know the 41 laws, do and Don’ts of Dubai or you will end up in Jail

UAE-Going To DUBAI – Know the 41 laws, do and Don’ts of Dubai or you will end up in Jail

According to UAE law, a suspect can be held without charge for 48 hours before being referred to the prosecution.

The article stipulates the punishment in the form of either a monetary penalty — up to 2,000 dirhems ($555) — or even a term of up to one month in prison.

30.

Drug laws are very strict, here is one example - British tourist Keith Brown was sentenced to four years in prison after Dubai customs officers found a 0.003g trace of cannabis stuck to his shoe. UK Radio 1 DJ Grooverider was sentenced to four years in Dubai for possession of cannabis. The DJ - real name Raymond Bingham - was arrested at the city's airport on November 23 after flying in for a nightclub gig. Customs officials found 2.16 grams of cannabis in his luggage.

As per Drug laws , "What many travelers may not realize is that they can be deemed to be in possession of such banned substances if they can be detected in their urine or bloodstream, or even in tiny, trace amounts on their person." 35.

As per Sharia law sharing an apartment with a friend of the opposite sex is crime and you may end up in jail.

36.

Any one can inform the police if they see male and female together, they may not call the police if someone is beating the wife, but if they see female is having freedom you should be sure they will inform to police. Eg. an unmarried Indian couple was sentenced to one year in prison just for hugging and kissing in the back seat of a taxi in the Emirate of Fujairah which is north of the UAE. When the taxi driver saw what they were doing, he drove them directly to the police station!

37.

More than 370 drugs are controlled in Dubai .Here is the link you can check the list of controlled drugs.

38.

http://abudhabi.usembassy.gov/restricted_medication_.html

39.

Prescription and over-the-counter medications are often considered illegal or a controlled substance. Keep your meds in their original containers and bring a letter from your doctor as a well as a copy of your prescription with you.

40.

Be aware what ever country you belong uk or usa or European the embassy will not be able to help you, more than giving you contacts of lawyers. The laws are very strict.

41.

Last but best tip is visit Dubai to make money, Visit Dubai to understand Islam, do not visit Dubai for fun or entertainment which involves full freedom.

Great article. This speaks a lot about Dubai, a country where everyone desires to go. I was knowing it as a strict county but not that strict. These points tells us a totally different story. I would prefer not to go there as I cannot live in such restrictions. This is just being too harsh and I would also say..being barbaric :(

The man, who is in his 20s, was seen with a woman "sitting on one of the chairs, exchanging hugs."
The man is to receive three batches of lashes and is banned from malls for two years. The women will be tried in another court.

Better is they should know what is law and what is punishment.

I just read your rules about visiting Dubai. Some of these are pretty scary to me and I was totally unaware of them. So many U. S. couple live together for years, before marrying, and travel all over the world together. They, clearly, need to leave Dubai off their travel plans. I had back surgery many years ago and still, occasionally, need doctor ordered pain medications from time to time. It is anxiety provoking to think I might end up in prison for taking a medication, within appropriate limits, under medical advice.

Hitesh Rawat August 30, 2010

Dubai looks so interesting and it is a cruise port that many Americans would visit because it is but one stop on an itinerary included by American cruise lines in that part of the world. I am sure the cruise lines include these rules in their port talks - or they should - the day before passenger disembarkation. Some of these are VERY important. Honeymooners, for example, often cruise and I can just imagine them strolling about, holding hands and indulging in an occasional kiss. Without adequate information, they might be spending the rest of their honeymoon, separated, in Dubai jails.

I am a strong supporter of respecting the laws of a country you are visiting and ignorance is no excuse. One must make every effort to be informed of a country's do's and taboos when traveling.

ABU DHABI (UAE): A man can beat his wife and young children, as long as he leaves no marks on the body, UAE's highest court has ruled.
Ruling in a case where a man beat up his wife and adult daughter, the court took exception to the cuts and bruises he caused.
The man's daughter is 23 year old.
It said the man was guilty of harming the women but noted that Islamic codes allow for ``discipline'' if no marks are left.

Hello friends ki like Dubai very well i Missing Dubai i will be there after 1year :)

educatedlady February 18, 2013

I would never visit this country. I love my freedom too much. Seems fair to say youll end up in jail if you visit Dubai . People suffer from cancer, hiv , and other life threatning illness so you mean to tell me prescription drugs are illegal. For others who live in countries like this you agree because your mind is already inslaved. Seems woman have no voice and thats ridiculous .

Anonymous,  July 21, 2013

So UAE. You can't kiss, can't drink, can't swear, and you can't be a nudist. But hey you can beat the hell out of your wife.

So why exactly do people visit again?

Anonymous,  July 22, 2013

Hey there,

I read this article and it makes me wonder, I might get employed by one company with residence in Dubai and so far I know this company is doing a drug test when you're hired and already in Dubai, so if they will find a trace of cannabis in my bloodstream/urine will they definetely call the police and I will end up in jail ? Or anything else could happen? I'd be glad if anyone could answer me. Thanks

SheltieMom33,  July 23, 2013

@Anonymous

It is one thing to say that having sex in public is morally wrong. It is a whole different story with many negative implications for women's health to say that it is illegal for them to report rape without having 4 other men witness it or they will be treated as criminals themselves. That is plain ridiculous and all men who support this law should be ashamed of themselves for accepting this for their wives and daughters. It is absolutely wrong religiously as well as morally for women to be accused of willfully having sex outside of marriage if they are raped. Disgusting.

Religion is not an excuse to allow men to do as they please.

Anonymous,  July 24, 2013

Haha. This shit made me laugh. Too god damn funny how sick laws can be.

You can't kiss your wife in public, or fuck your girlfriend in the hotelroom. But beating them up is perfectly fine? - Makes good sense!

4 years in prison for 0,003 g. of hash? LOOL! - I'd end up getting a trillion years if I ever went to Dubai.

Well.. What can you expect from a 1400+ year old book that is taken 100% seriously?..

Glad I live in Denmark. Here we can kiss, fuck, eat (pork), drink ourselves under the table, and swear and so on - All in public, without anything happening. Yay!

Anonymous,  March 24, 2014

Hope you don't this offensively but I found this article very based. You make it seem like everyone is spying on the tourist waiting for them to make one mistake and then drag the off to the prison. You make it seem very uptight which I believe is not how it is. If it was there wouldn't be excellent remarks from the tourists and they would not want to go back again. But this article was very detailed and shows every worst scenario so it's helpful. But drawins a lot of negative attention towards the country's culture

Unknown May 14, 2014

Please learn to read and differentiate between the sentiments of a person and the facts (where mostly only negative ones are reported here, and that is okay since I was searching for the harsher facts about Dubai). Obviouly, the person writing here has had some negative experiences in Dubai. It is however important to know and respect laws from every country you visit. And yes, sometimes you are just plain unlucky. It is also near certain that if you live in a place long enough, you will have negative experiences as well. It is not always going to be "the bed of roses." That is just part of life. Try to understand people and deal with them with respect, usually things will work out. I am also sure that there are laws to protect women, they just need to know about them. However, it is useless and harmful chat to talk bad but actually do nothing about it, and more so without knowing the full details. First, we must rid ourselves of hate, then learn with open mind.

Unknown August 22, 2016

Dear Friends ,

Most of the things stated here are true as far as the laws are concerned. Dubai does follow a strict Sharia code of law , but that does not mean that you have to be on your toes all the time you are in Dubai. This I am recounting from my personal experience of living , working and enjoying several years of my life in Dubai. Dubai gives all the opportunities for having a fun filled stay, amazing night life , cosmopolitan ambiance. And all of this could be yours if you know how to have fun within your own zone and not infringe other people's harmony. One of the best things that I find immensely praiseworthy in UAE specially Dubai is that it has the safest environment for woman. A woman can travel the length and breadth of the country all by herself at any point of the day or night. I am sure that if ever you come to visit Dubai it wont disappoint in the least bit , rather you will have a mesmerizing experience with that will leave a big wide smile on your face during your exit.!

WorriedMum December 26, 2016

As I write this, my Eldest Daugther is heading out the front door being rushed by her boyfriend as they are heading out to Dubai to celebrate the New Year in style.
I hadn't given it much thought only envious remarks lol until an hour or so ago as I searched up the strict Laws and now it's safe to say, that I'm desperately worried. I fear as the laws are so strict, she will do something out of routine/habit without thinking and BANG that's her lot. She is very much a girly girly, all pink & fluff, hair & nails so to speak that's not gonna go down to well either, let alone the outfits & shoes. Their law is their country's right and I don't dispute that infact if only we could adopt some decent laws ourselves instead of the loopholed ones we have now that are of very little worth and only seem to punish those less deserving while those Deserving still have rights and a voice costing further tax payers hard earned cash to cover. Case read on comments of young women raped and the law surrounding this states "must be observed by 4 adult males" for it to be considered rape leaving her being charged with Sex outside of marriage, I BASICALLY HAVE NO WORDS FOR THIS LAW (None I can really write in this post anyway). Should I have the concerns I do or like some things in life, once you are there, you realise it all appears worse on paper than reality? How can u be so scared to visit a place of such beauty, quite easy it appears for me

xela042 April 29, 2017

one of my daughter is a victim of law in dubai..my daugther and his boyfriend will go to jail until now..because the police will catch them in hotel room without a necessary paper to show them they have a marriage couple..

Anonymous,  July 08, 2017

Laws bring about disciplined, which is something this world need, not ignorance! There's nothing Holy about that foolishness, an it is not of Heaven.Laws were mean to be broken, when created by man! That's what kings are for, we must remember the ways of old, which taught us to look up, for instructions, not within. God leads and guide, in an orderly fashion. Not in an unjustifiable way. It was discovered many centuries ago, that it is humanly impossible for man to live by laws, That is when, God came to earth, as a man, to see why. The devil is cunning and crafty and always looking to rule and rain, on the innocent and decent, but mind you, when the enemy come in like a flood the spirit of the lord will raise up a standard against him. Man will be destroyed by his own ignorance. Always stick with the 3 Christian Virtues, Love, Faith, and Hope, peace be unto you.

Any country with laws such as those, has no self control within themselves, and have something to hide, who can serve, enjoy, and respect such laws, as chewing gum, eating and drinking after hours, we're not robots, we're human. That foolishness is straight from hell! Not Heaven, where's the holiness in that? When God created the Heaven and Earth, He did it with Love, compassion, strength, virtue and faith, we should be praising him, for his Glory, he has provided for us since the beginning of time, and he's still providing, we are not religious people, we do not live an organized religious life. We're free, praise god, we are free, to preach the gospel, the good news, we are forgiven, say it! I Forgive Me, I'm letting it go, the past, the foolishness, the lies, the bondage, the fear, the hurt, the pain, the haters, I'm letting it go, today, right now, in jesus name, amen. Be blessed.
